Berkshire County CAN!

We work in Berkshire County to strengthen regional capacity through engagement and collaboration to prepare for an uncertain future.

We are 14 regional planning master’s students at UMass Amherst collaborating with the Berkshire Regional Planning Council.

The Berkshire Regional Planning Commission recently received grant funding through the state program ResilientMass. This two-year grant program funds regional projects to build resiliency in the Berkshires, helping small towns prepare for an uncertain future.

We’re here to help identify those priority projects. For the past two months, we’ve been researching resiliency initiatives throughout the region to help determine where state funding should go.

To help, we’re creating a toolkit that will help regional planners and town governments become more resilient. Through the toolkit, this project seeks to build capacity, help towns adapt to changes, and address regional needs.

Capacity

— Building on the people, resources, knowledge, and partnerships within Berkshire County.

Adaptation

— Preparing communities to respond and adjust to changing social, economic, and environmental conditions.

Needs

— Listening to communities to understand what matters most and where additional support and investments are needed.
